Wine and More

We are starting a blog about wine, mostly devoted to wine grapes: the varieties behind the wines we know and love, their characteristic aromas and flavors, and the styles of wine they can create. 

Wine begins with the grape — and every grape variety tells a different story. Learning to recognize the names of these grapes can make reading a wine label a little more rewarding. It can give you a sense of what to expect before the first sip — perhaps a certain fruit, a particular texture, a familiar aroma, or simply a hint of the wine’s character.

Of course, it is never quite that simple. The same grape can express itself differently depending on its place, climate, vintage, and the hands that make the wine. A label may offer clues, but the glass always keeps a few secrets of its own.

And perhaps that element of surprise is part of what makes wine so endlessly fascinating — and why we love it.
